What is Burnout?
Many of us feel some level of burnout at some stage in our lives. This usually occurs to high achievers; those of us who feel a deep level of responsibility to provide and care for others. This is quite understandable and often has roots in early childhood experiences. It is not a bad thing in and of itself and can be quite a virtuous and altruistic trait, when used wisely.
Symptoms of burnout can include chronic tiredness, insomnia, various illnesses, an absence of a sense of purpose, a feeling that life is an endless to-do list and a nagging insistence that we are the only ones who have to or can complete this list.
Burnout is commonly medicated through substance addiction but is more often fed through the process of doing itself; we are constantly doing something, finding things to fix. You don’t have to be an ‘executive’ type to experience burnout. Our mind and body feel spent, yet we keep returning to the doing. This is actually the time to stop doing. To take a pause, to start some undoing.
Take some time to be good to yourself. Let us show you how to start with the person you are going to live with for the whole of your life: YOU! From there, you are in a better place to look after the people you care about.
